Electrical Fault Finding Sydney

Something’s not right with your electrics. Network’s licensed Sydney electricians find the fault, fix it, and make sure your home is safe. That’s it. Handled.

What Network’s Electricians Can Track Down –

Electrical faults don’t always make themselves obvious. Some are loud and urgent, a safety switch that keeps tripping, a circuit with no power. Others are quiet and slow, building inside walls and switchboards over months. Either way, our licensed electricians have the tools and training to locate the source precisely and fix it safely.

What Our Experts Can Assess
  • Tripping Circuit Breakers Circuit breakers that trip repeatedly point to a fault in the circuit – an overloaded line, a short circuit, or a failing breaker itself. We test the circuit under load to find the cause.

  • Safety Switch (RCD) Faults If your safety switch keeps tripping and you can’t identify why, there’s likely an earth leakage fault somewhere in the circuit. We isolate each circuit systematically to find it.

  • Flickering or Dimming Lights Intermittent lighting issues are often caused by loose connections, failing fittings, or voltage fluctuations on the circuit. We trace the cause back to the source.

  • Dead Outlets & Power Points An outlet or group of outlets that has lost power – with no obvious cause at the switchboard – usually indicates a wiring fault, a failed connection, or a damaged circuit.

  • Burning Smells & Hot Switchboards A burning smell near powerpoints or your switchboard is a warning sign that requires immediate attention. We use thermal imaging where needed to detect hot spots invisible to the eye.
  • Intermittent & Hidden Faults Faults that come and go are often the hardest to catch, and the most dangerous to ignore. We test methodically until we find it, not just when it’s showing symptoms.

Sydney's Electrical Fault Specialists

Network has been looking after Sydney homes and businesses since 1988. Electrical fault finding requires more than a multimeter and a guess – it requires a licensed electrician who knows how to read a circuit, test systematically, and communicate clearly. Every Network electrician is licensed under NSW Fair Trading, fully insured, and trained to work safely on 240V residential and commercial systems.

Why Work With Our Electrical Experts?
  • One Team. Every Trade. Most electricians only do electrical work. Network is different. Our electricians work alongside our licensed plumbers and air conditioning technicians under the same roof, the same standards, and the same accountability. If your electrician spots a related issue – moisture ingress near a junction box, a hot water system wired incorrectly – it doesn’t fall through the cracks. We handle it.

  • Upfront Pricing. No Surprises. Before any work begins, you’ll know the cost. We give you a clear quote after the initial diagnostic assessment – not after the job is done.

  • Lifetime Labour Warranty. Every repair we carry out is backed by our lifetime labour warranty. If something we’ve fixed causes a problem down the track, we come back and sort it.

How Network Finds the Fault

Step 1 – You Call, We Listen Before your electrician arrives, our team asks the right questions: what you’re experiencing, which areas are affected, whether it’s constant or intermittent, and what if anything triggered it. That information goes straight to your technician.

Step 2 – Systematic Diagnosis Your electrician inspects the switchboard, tests affected circuits, checks connections and earthing, and works through the system methodically. Where appropriate, we use thermal imaging to detect heat build-up invisible to the eye.

Step 3 – Clear Explanation You get a plain-language explanation of what was found, what caused it, and what the fix involves. No technical jargon. No pressure. If the repair is straightforward, it’s often completed the same visit.

Step 4 – Fix Verified Before We Leave Every fault finding job ends with a final test to confirm the fix has held and the system is safe. We don’t leave until it’s confirmed.

Sydney Electrical Fault Finding FAQs

Do you have more burning questions about ceiling fans, switchboards or your lighting system? Here are some electrical solutions.

What are the signs I need an electrical fault finding service?

The most common signs are circuit breakers or safety switches that trip repeatedly, flickering or dimming lights, outlets that feel warm or spark, a burning smell near the switchboard or powerpoints, and power lost to part of your home with no obvious cause. Intermittent faults – those that come and go – should also be investigated promptly. They often indicate a fault that’s developing and will eventually cause a more serious failure.

Can I investigate an electrical fault myself?

A homeowner can safely reset a tripped circuit breaker, unplug appliances to test whether one is causing the issue, or check that a safety switch hasn’t been accidentally switched off. Beyond that, electrical work must be carried out by a licensed electrician. DIY electrical work is illegal in NSW under the Home Building Act 1989, can void your home insurance, and carries serious risk of electric shock or fire from 240V circuits.

How long does fault finding take?

Every visit is different, as every home is unique. A single tripped breaker with a clear cause can be resolved quickly. Hidden or intermittent faults – those affecting multiple circuits or only appearing under certain conditions – take longer. Your Network electrician will give you a realistic timeframe after the initial assessment.

Is it safe to keep using my home if there's an electrical fault?

It depends on the fault. If you can smell burning, see sparking, or have lost power to the main board, turn off the mains immediately and call an electrician. For lower-urgency symptoms – occasional flickering, a dead outlet – the immediate risk may be lower, but the fault should still be investigated promptly. Electrical faults don’t resolve themselves. Most worsen over time.

Do I need to be home during the visit?

Yes. An adult (18+) must be present to provide access to the property and switchboard, describe what you’ve been experiencing, and review the findings with the electrician before they leave.

How often should a Sydney home's electrical system be inspected?

Every three to five years is the general guideline for a standard Sydney home. Older homes – particularly those built before the 1990s with aluminium wiring or older switchboards – may benefit from more frequent checks. If you’ve recently purchased a property and don’t know its electrical history, a fault finding inspection is a sensible first step before any renovation or major appliance installation.

What's the difference between fault finding and a full electrical inspection?

Fault finding is targeted – it’s used when you’re experiencing a specific problem and need to identify the cause. A full electrical inspection is a broader compliance check of the entire system, covering wiring condition, earthing, switchboard safety, and overall compliance with Australian standards. If you’re not sure which you need, call us and describe your situation. We’ll point you in the right direction.
