Emergency Steps
When you have a hot water system emergency in Sydney, follow these steps to ensure your situation is handled effectively before our reliable plumbers arrive:
Knowing the exact location of your hot water heater is crucial. It might be upstairs, downstairs, internal, or external.
If your hot water system is leaking, locate the control valve. For electric storage tanks, the valve is usually at the base of the tank. For continuous flow systems, it’s typically underneath the heater. If water continues to flow, locate and turn off the water meter.
If possible, turn off your power supply to prevent any electrical hazards. For electric hot water heaters, you might also need to turn off the circuit breaker to avoid the heating element turning on unexpectedly.
If you have a gas hot water system, turn off the gas supply until our specialist plumber arrives to assess and repair the issue.

Trent arrived on time and after digging around where my wet patch in the back garden was, he was able to locate the specific area, but not the leak itself and is returning on Monday with the leak detector to finalise the repair.

Had a great experience with Network Plumbing. Liam, Billy K., and Chase were very professional from start to finish. They removed the balcony tiles and waterproofing effectively and took extra care to make sure no debris ended up in the pool. They also did an excellent job cleaning up afterward, including the sliding window screen and the wooden fence around the balcony. Their attention to detail and care for our home was well noticed and appreciated. I would happily recommend Network services.
Sarkis was the air conditioning technician who arrived at my place to carry out a routine service. It had been a while since my last one & my ducted system is 15 years old. Sarkis was polite, friendly, respectful, efficient, & explained everything as he carried out his checks. He was honest about what he saw & found, & gave me options, to consider, but he was never pushy about them. He followed up, with information for me to consider. Based on my experience with Sarkis today, I would happily have this company back to my place & would happily recommend them to others. Thank you Sarkis, for your great customer service today 👏

Ryan was so courteous and knowledgeable. The response to my gas leak was also within a few hours which was also amazing. Thank you for helping me out!
Excellent service !
I was in need of a local plumber willing to check out a 30 year old mini HWS that has never given any trouble until recently when it became clear that either the thermostat or a pressure relief valve had finally failed. After a few attempts over the long weekend that got me nowhere, I tried Network Plumbing and have nothing but compliments on the way they attended to things in double quick time. The person who took my call knew what she had to do and the plumber arrived well within the advised time period, called me ahead of time and was totally professional and polite. Jordan was quick to confirm what the fault was; he had the replacement part and was able to repair the leaking valve within 20 minutes, before checking out another small plumbing issue and advising the best way to remedy that. I would have their qualified plumber Jordan back here at any time and I was more than impressed with Network’s whole operation.
Mat and Joey were efficient and lovely to work with. And from the get-go Ryan was helpful and communicative to get the job locked in and permits sorted. Would highly recommend!
Excellent service and very professional workers. Phillip and Sean did a fabulous job and our sewer is now working perfectly.

He was punctual, fixed the problem onsite and gave us a good advice for maintenance.
I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the excellent after-sales service provided by the Network Plumbing team. Their annual inspection service is very reassuring and thoughtfully carried out. What stood out the most was how clearly and patiently they explained the operation of the switches and the key points for ongoing maintenance. Their guidance was easy to understand and very practical for everyday use. The team’s attitude was warm, gentle, and friendly, which made the whole experience very comfortable. They gave me a strong sense of trust and safety. Overall, I am very satisfied with their service and would highly recommend them. Thank you for your professionalism and care.

Frequently asked questions
Do you have more burning questions about leaking taps, a blocked toilet or your plumbing system? Here are some plumbing solutions.
Hot water repair costs vary depending on the system type, age, and the part that’s failed. Some issues are minor and quick to fix, while others involve critical components that need careful assessment.
Rather than guessing over the phone, our Sydney technicians inspect the system on site, explain what’s gone wrong, and walk you through the most sensible repair options before any work begins.
In many cases, yes – especially if the system is relatively young and the fault is isolated. Repairs can be a cost effective way to restore hot water quickly.
However, if the system is older or experiencing repeated failures, replacement may be the better long term option. A professional assessment helps you make the right call based on safety, reliability, and value, not guesswork.
Yes. Licensed plumbers, and gas fitters for gas systems – repair, service, and replace hot water systems. Because hot water systems involve water pressure, electricity, or gas, work must be done by a properly licensed professional.
Our Sydney team is trained across electric, gas, and heat pump systems.
Most hot water systems last 10–15 years, depending on the type, usage, water quality, and maintenance. Regular servicing can extend lifespan, while hard water and heavy usage can shorten it.
Knowing the age of your system helps determine whether repair or replacement makes the most sense.
It depends on the system’s age and the nature of the fault. Repairs on newer systems are often worthwhile, while major component failures on older units may make replacement the smarter long-term option.
Our approach is to assess the system properly and explain the pros and cons of each option before you decide.
Common issues include failed heating elements, faulty thermostats, gas ignition problems, sediment build-up, and pressure relief valve issues.
Many of these problems show early warning signs before total failure, which is why timely inspection can prevent complete loss of hot water.
Service costs vary depending on system type, access, and what checks or adjustments are required. Rather than applying flat assumptions, we inspect the system on site and explain what the service involves before proceeding.
There’s no set rule, but being without hot water for more than a day — especially during cooler months – is generally considered disruptive and should be addressed promptly.
If hot water loss affects hygiene, health, or daily living, it’s worth having the system assessed sooner rather than later.
Diagnosis involves checking power or gas supply, thermostats, heating elements or burners, pressure levels, safety valves, and overall system condition.
Because each system behaves differently, proper diagnosis requires onsite inspection rather than phone assumptions.
A quick first check is whether power or gas supply has been interrupted, such as a tripped circuit breaker or extinguished pilot light.
If supply is present and there’s still no hot water, it’s best to have a licensed technician assess the system to avoid safety risks or further damage.
The most common causes are failed heating elements (electric), ignition or gas supply issues (gas), thermostat faults, or system shutdowns due to safety mechanisms.
Each cause requires a different solution, which is why professional diagnosis is important.
Warning signs often include:
• Fluctuating water temperature
• Reduced hot water supply
• Strange noises from the tank
• Rusty or discoloured water
• Small leaks around valves or the base
Catching these signs early can prevent full system failure.
