In many older homes, yes. Older switchboards may not have the room or capacity for new circuits. A 7.4kW EV charger, for example, needs its own dedicated 32A circuit with its own safety switch (RCD). A standard switchboard upgrade takes around 4 to 6 hours with the power off. Switchboards installed before 1990 may have asbestos backing boards, and if yours does, we coordinate safe removal with a licensed asbestos removalist as part of the job.

Yes. Our electricians are fully licensed in NSW. For switchboard upgrades, new circuits and other electrical installation work, you receive a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) confirming the work meets NSW safety standards.

Only for some jobs. In NSW, work on the connection between your property and the electricity network, such as new service mains, overhead or underground connections and moving a meter, must be done by a Level 2 Accredited Service Provider. Most household electrical work, like lighting, power points and appliance installations, is done by a licensed electrician and does not need Level 2 accreditation. If your job involves Level 2 work, we will tell you upfront and explain the next steps.

Homes built before 1990 often have ceramic fuses, no safety switches and wiring that was not designed for today’s appliances, and some switchboards may contain asbestos. We recommend a safety inspection by one of our experienced electricians to check your home is safe and show what needs upgrading.

Generally, the owners corporation pays for common property, such as hallway lights, the main switchboard and car park circuits, while lot owners pay for the wiring and appliances inside their own unit. Always check your strata plan and by-laws. We work with strata managers and owners corporations, provide written quotes and can coordinate plumbing and air conditioning work at the same time.
