Data cabling services Sydney

Dead spots in the bedroom. Video calls that drop mid-sentence. A home office running on the same Wi-Fi as the kids’ streaming. If your internet connection isn’t keeping up with how you actually live and work, the fix isn’t a new router – it’s a wired one. Network’s licensed Sydney electricians install Cat6 data cabling, extra data points, and NBN relocations across Sydney homes and businesses. Fast, neat, and built to last.

Why a licensed electrician matters

In NSW, permanent data cabling must be installed by a licensed electrician or registered cabler. A handyman running cables through your walls isn’t compliant – and an installation that hasn’t been tested and documented won’t perform reliably over time. Network’s licensed electricians install, test, label, and document every data cabling job so you know exactly what’s connected, where, and how it’s performing.

Why Wired Beats Wireless - Every Time

Wi-Fi is convenient. It’s also shared, variable, and affected by interference from neighbouring networks, building materials, appliances, and the sheer number of devices connecting to it in a modern home. A hardwired Cat6 connection doesn’t share bandwidth, doesn’t drop out, and doesn’t slow down when your neighbour runs their microwave.

Why you should wire up

For anything that matters – a work-from-home setup, a gaming system, a 4K streaming setup, a security camera, or a smart home hub – a wired connection is more reliable, faster, and more secure than Wi-Fi. It’s also harder to intercept, which matters for home offices handling sensitive work.

The good news is that adding data points to an existing Sydney home is a straightforward job for a licensed electrician. Most single data point installations are completed within a couple of hours. A full whole-house structured cabling system typically takes one day.

How a Network Data Cabling Installation Works

Step 1 – Tell Us What You Need Call or book online. Let us know which rooms need data points, where your NBN or router currently sits, and whether you’re looking for a single point or a whole-house solution. If you’re not sure, we’ll help you work it out on site.

Step 2 – Site Assessment and Quote Your Network electrician assesses cable routes, ceiling and wall cavity access, and the best central distribution point for your layout. You receive a fixed upfront quote before any work begins.

Step 3 – Installation Cables are run through walls and ceilings, terminated at wall plates, and connected to your router, patch panel, or network switch. Data points are labelled clearly at both ends.

Step 4 – Testing and Documentation Every cable run is tested with a cable tester to confirm it’s performing to Cat6 or Cat6A specification. Results are documented and provided to you on completion.

Data cabling FAQs

Do you have more burning questions about ceiling fans, switchboards or your lighting system? Here are some electrical solutions.

What data cabling services do you provide?

Cat6 & Cat6A Data Point Installation – We install Cat6 and Cat6A Ethernet data points in bedrooms, living areas, studies, garages, and anywhere else a reliable wired connection matters. Cat6 suits most homes; Cat6A is recommended for offices, high-data environments, or future-proofing against increasing bandwidth demands.

NBN Point Relocation – Your NBN connection box landed in the garage, a back bedroom, or somewhere else that makes no sense for your layout. We relocate internal NBN data outlets to a more practical central location – improving router placement, signal distribution, and overall network performance.

Whole-House Structured Cabling – Building, renovating, or starting from scratch with a home network? We design and install a structured cabling system – multiple data points run from a central distribution point – that gives every room in the house a reliable hardwired connection. Complete installations with 8 to 12 data points typically run $1,200 to $2,500.

Home Office Data Cabling – A home office running on Wi-Fi is one weak signal away from a dropped call or a missed deadline. We install dedicated Cat6 data points to your workspace, coordinate power point additions on the same visit, and ensure your connection is stable enough for video conferencing, large file transfers, and VPN use.

Media Room & Entertainment Cabling – Smart TVs, streaming devices, gaming consoles, and home theatre systems all perform better on a wired connection. We run Cat6 to your media room, living area, or entertainment setup – cleaner than cables across the floor and faster than any wireless connection.

Commercial & Office Data Cabling – Office fit-outs, desk relocations, structured cabling upgrades, patch panel installations, and fibre backbone runs for multi-storey or high-throughput environments. We carry out commercial data cabling across Sydney, including after-hours work to keep your business running.

What is data cabling and do I need it?

Data cabling is a hardwired network connection – typically Cat6 Ethernet cable – that runs from a central point in your home or office to individual rooms or devices. Unlike Wi-Fi, a wired connection doesn’t drop out, share bandwidth with other users, or degrade through walls and floors. If you work from home, stream in 4K, game online, or simply find that your Wi-Fi doesn’t reach certain parts of the house reliably, data cabling is the fix that actually solves the problem.

Can you relocate my NBN connection point?

Yes. NBN point relocation is one of the most common data cabling jobs Network attends. If your NBN connection box landed in an impractical location – a garage, a back bedroom, a kitchen – we relocate the internal connection to a more central or practical spot, improving both router placement and signal distribution throughout the home. Note: Network handles internal cabling only and does not carry out NBN lead-in or external fibre work.

How long does data cabling installation take?

A single data point installation typically takes one to two hours. A home office setup with two or three points and a patch panel takes two to four hours. A full whole-house structured cabling system with eight to twelve points usually takes a full day. Your Network electrician will give you a realistic timeframe after the initial site assessment.

Do I need to add power points alongside my data points?

In most cases, yes – a data point without a nearby power point means extension cords, which defeats the purpose. Network’s electricians install both on the same visit. It’s one of the advantages of booking with a licensed electrical team rather than a data-only installer.

Can you install data cabling in a commercial office or strata building?

Yes. Network carries out commercial data cabling across Sydney including office fit-outs, desk relocation cabling, structured cabling upgrades, patch panel installations, and fibre backbone runs for multi-storey or high-throughput environments. We also carry out after-hours work where operational disruption needs to be minimised. Strata buildings have additional access and approval requirements – we advise on these as part of the scoping process.

What areas in Sydney do you help with data cabling?

Network’s licensed electricians carry out data cabling installations across Sydney and Greater Sydney from single data point additions in Inner West terrace houses to full structured cabling fit-outs across Hills District family homes and commercial offices.

We carry out data cabling installations across Parramatta, Surry Hills, Newtown, Balmain, Leichhardt, Bondi, Randwick, Chatswood, Hornsby, Manly, Dee Why, Penrith, Blacktown, Castle Hill, Liverpool, Sutherland, Cronulla, Strathfield, Ryde, Mosman, Lane Cove, and surrounding suburbs.

Why Sydney Homeowners and Businesses Choose Network for Data Cabling

Licensed, Tested, and Documented – Every Network data cabling installation is tested with a cable tester to confirm performance, labelled clearly at both ends, and documented so you have a record of what’s installed and where. That matters when you’re troubleshooting in three years, or when a new owner wants to understand the property’s network infrastructure.

Neat Concealed Work – Cables run through walls and ceilings, not across skirting boards and under rugs. Every data point is fitted with a clean wall plate. Roof space and wall cavity access is restored neatly on completion.

Power Points on the Same Visit – A data point without a power point nearby is only half the job. Network’s electricians install both on the same visit – no need to book a separate tradesperson for the electrical side.

Upfront Pricing – We provide a fixed quote after assessing the job – call our team to arrange a site visit.
