Electrical Repairs Sydney

Electrical Fault Finding Sydney

A dead power point. Lights that flicker every time the dishwasher runs. A switch that buzzes when you touch it. Electrical problems don’t resolve themselves – they build. Network’s licensed Sydney electricians diagnose and repair electrical faults across homes and businesses, from quick fixes to complex wiring repairs. Handled the day you call.

What Our Experts Can Assess

No electrical repair is too small to matter – and none should be left until it becomes something larger. Network’s licensed Sydney electricians attend minor repairs and major repair jobs under the same standard of care. Whether it’s a single dead outlet or a wiring fault that’s been causing intermittent problems for months, we find the cause and fix it correctly.

Minor Electrical Repairs vs Major Electrical Repairs

The line between a minor and a major electrical repair isn’t always obvious from the outside. What looks like a single dead outlet can turn out to be a wiring fault running through three circuits. What seems like a complex rewiring job can sometimes be resolved in 30 minutes once the cause is identified. This is why every repair job starts with a proper diagnosis, not an assumption.

What's the difference?

Minor Electrical Repairs Minor repairs are typically isolated, single-component jobs with a clear cause and a straightforward fix. They are usually completed within one visit and at lower cost.

Major Electrical Repairs Major repairs involve multiple circuits, extended wiring runs, concealed faults, or work that requires accessing wiring inside walls, ceilings, or underground. They take longer, cost more, and often surface a broader issue that was previously hidden.

Why Sydney Homeowners Call Network for Electrical Repairs

Electrical repairs are only as good as the diagnosis behind them. Replacing a faulty outlet without checking why it failed means the fault comes back. Network’s electricians are trained to find the cause, not just address the visible symptom. Every repair is tested before we leave, and every applicable job is backed by a Certificate of Electrical Compliance.

How Network Repairs

We Fix the Cause, Not Just the Symptom A flickering light isn’t always a loose globe. A dead power point isn’t always a failed outlet. We test the circuit, check the switchboard, and identify the underlying issue – so the repair holds.

Electrical major or minor repairs - FAQs

Do you have more burning questions about ceiling fans, switchboards or your lighting system? Here are some electrical solutions.

What electrical issues need attention now, not later?

These are the repair callouts that get deferred – until they become something serious. If any of the following are present in your home, book an inspection before they escalate:

  • Power points that feel warm to the touch, even with nothing plugged in
  • Lights or power points that work intermittently – sometimes on, sometimes not
  • A burning smell anywhere near power points, the switchboard, or ceiling fittings
  • Switches or outlets that spark when used
  • Circuit breakers that trip repeatedly on the same circuit
  • Wiring that is visibly damaged, exposed, or showing signs of heat damage
  • A switchboard with scorch marks or signs of overheating
  • Outdoor electrical fittings that have been exposed to water or storm damage

Electrical problems don’t resolve themselves. In most cases, an ignored fault becomes a larger repair – or worse.

How does Network handle an electrical repair

Step 1 – Tell Us What You’re Experiencing Call or book online and describe what’s happening – which area of the home, what symptoms you’ve noticed, and how long it’s been occurring. The more detail, the better equipped your electrician is before they arrive.

Step 2 – Diagnosis on Arrival Your Network electrician tests the affected circuit, outlet, or fitting and identifies the root cause. If the fault is deeper in the wiring or involves the switchboard, they’ll investigate further before quoting.

Step 3 – Upfront Quote Before any work begins, you receive a clear, fixed quote. For straightforward minor repairs, this is usually done on the same visit within the first 15 minutes. For more complex repairs, we’ll scope the job fully before giving a number.

Step 4 – Repair and Test The repair is carried out and the circuit or fitting is tested to confirm correct operation. A Certificate of Electrical Compliance is issued for applicable work. We don’t leave until it’s confirmed as working correctly.

Can I repair electrical wiring myself in NSW?

No. Any work involving fixed electrical wiring in NSW must be carried out by a licensed electrician under the Home Building Act 1989. This includes replacing power points, light switches, wiring, fittings, and circuit breakers. Unlicensed electrical work carries fines of up to $110,000 under NSW Fair Trading, voids your home insurance, and creates genuine risk of electric shock or fire.

Why does my power point keep failing?

A power point that repeatedly fails usually has a cause beyond the outlet itself. Common reasons include a loose or corroded wiring connection behind the outlet, an overloaded circuit, a damaged run of cable supplying that circuit, or a fault at the switchboard. Replacing the outlet without investigating the underlying cause means the fault will likely return. Network’s electricians trace the fault to its source before carrying out the repair.

Why do my lights flicker?

Flickering lights are most commonly caused by loose connections at the fitting, at the switchboard, or somewhere along the circuit. Other causes include an overloaded circuit, a failing dimmer switch that’s incompatible with LED globes, or a fault on the supply neutral. If flickering affects multiple lights or areas of the home simultaneously, the cause may be at the switchboard or the incoming supply  which warrants a same-day electrician visit.

My power point sparked when I plugged something in - is that normal?

A very brief, small spark when connecting an appliance can be normal as the circuit completes. A large spark, repeated sparking, or a spark accompanied by a burning smell is not normal and requires immediate attention. Turn off the power point at the switch, don’t use it, and call an electrician. Persistent sparking indicates a loose connection, damaged wiring, or a fault in the outlet – all of which are fire risks if left unattended.

How long do electrical repairs take?

Minor repairs – a single outlet, a failed fitting, a replacement breaker – are usually completed within 30 to 60 minutes. Repairs involving hidden wiring, multiple circuits, or fault investigation take longer depending on what’s found. Network will give you a realistic timeframe after the initial assessment, and a fixed price before any work starts.

Do I get a certificate after electrical repair work?

Yes, for applicable work. A Certificate of Electrical Compliance (CCEW) is a legal requirement in NSW for prescribed electrical work – including repairs involving wiring, switchboard components, and new connections. Keep it with your property documents. It’s required for insurance claims, compliance certificates, and property sale disclosures. Network issues one on every job it applies to.

Can you do emergency electrical repairs after hours?

Yes. Network offers 24/7 emergency electrical support across Sydney. After-hours rates apply – we’ll confirm the cost before any work begins. Call our team for urgent repair callouts.
