Power Point Installation Sydney

Power Points Services - Network Handled

Extension cords and double adaptors feel like a fix. They’re not – they’re a fire risk and an inconvenience you’ve learned to live with. Network’s licensed Sydney electricians install new power points, upgrade single outlets to doubles, add USB charging points, and fit outdoor GPOs wherever you need them. One visit. Done properly.

Why enlisting our experts matters

In NSW, installing or replacing a power point – even swapping a single outlet for a double – must be carried out by a licensed electrician. It’s not a grey area. Unlicensed power point work voids your home insurance, is illegal under the Home Building Act 1989, and carries fines of up to $110,000 under NSW Fair Trading. Network’s licensed electricians get it done correctly, on the same day, with upfront pricing before we start.

How a Network Power Point Installation Works

Step 1 – Tell Us What You Need Call or book online. Let us know how many power points you need, where, and what type – standard double, USB, outdoor, or dedicated circuit. The more detail, the more accurate your quote before we arrive.

Step 2 – Assessment on Arrival Your Network electrician checks the existing circuit capacity, identifies the best cable route, and confirms whether the job requires new wiring or can reuse what’s already in the wall. You receive a fixed quote before any work begins.

Step 3 – Installation Outlets are installed, wired correctly, and fitted with clean wall plates. Where a new cable run is required, it’s routed through wall cavities and roof space to keep the finish neat.

Step 4 – Tested Before We Leave Every power point is tested to confirm correct polarity, earth continuity, and secure connection before we pack up. A Certificate of Electrical Compliance is issued for applicable work.

Why Double Adaptors and Extension Cords Are Not the Answer

Double adaptors have no overload protection built in. When you plug four devices into a double adaptor drawing more current than a single outlet is rated for, that excess load goes somewhere – into the wiring, into the outlet, into the wall. Over time, that means heat, degraded insulation, and a fault that develops quietly where you can’t see it.

Extension cords across floors are a trip hazard. Extension cords run under rugs or behind furniture are a fire risk – they can’t dissipate heat when covered, and damaged insulation under carpet can arc without any visible warning sign.

power point installation Sydney FAQs

Do you have more burning questions about ceiling fans, switchboards or your lighting system? Here are some electrical solutions.

What power point services can Network Electrical help with?

New Power Point Installation – Adding a power point in a room that doesn’t have one, or doesn’t have enough. We run new cable, install the outlet, and connect it to an existing circuit with capacity – or add a new circuit where needed.

Single to Double GPO Upgrades – The most common power point job in Sydney. Upgrading a single outlet to a double typically reuses existing wiring, making it quick and affordable.

USB Power Point Installation – USB-A and USB-C integrated power points eliminate bulky adaptors and keep bench space clear. We install USB combo outlets in kitchens, bedrooms, studies, and anywhere else charging matters.

Outdoor & Weatherproof Power Points – Patio, pergola, shed, garden, or garage – outdoor power points need to be correctly rated for external use. We install weatherproof GPOs to the correct IP rating for the installation location.

Power Point Repairs & Replacements – Cracked faces, warm outlets, sparking, plugs that don’t hold, or outlets that have simply stopped working. We diagnose the cause – whether it’s the outlet itself, the wiring behind it, or the circuit – and fix it at the source.

Dedicated High-Draw Circuit Power Points – Air conditioners, EV chargers, workshop equipment, and large appliances that require a dedicated 15A or 20A circuit rather than a standard 10A GPO. We install correctly rated outlets on dedicated circuits with appropriate protection.

What areas do you cover across Sydney?

Network’s licensed electricians install and repair power points across Sydney and Greater Sydney. From inner-city terrace houses with limited wall cavity access to new builds on the urban fringe, we work across all property types and attend most jobs the same day.

We carry out power point installations across Parramatta, Surry Hills, Newtown, Balmain, Leichhardt, Bondi, Randwick, Chatswood, Hornsby, Manly, Dee Why, Penrith, Blacktown, Castle Hill, Liverpool, Sutherland, Cronulla, Strathfield, Ryde, Mosman, Lane Cove, and surrounding suburbs.

Can I install a power point myself in NSW?

No. Under the Home Building Act 1989, all fixed electrical wiring work – including installing or replacing power points – must be carried out by a licensed electrician in NSW. This applies even to replacing a single outlet with a double. DIY power point installation voids your home insurance, is illegal, and carries fines of up to $110,000 under NSW Fair Trading. Network’s licensed electricians carry out most power point jobs the same day, for a fixed upfront price.

How many power points should a room have?

Australian standards require a minimum of one double GPO in most rooms, but modern households consistently need more. A bedroom used as a home office benefits from four to six outlets. A kitchen with multiple appliances needs dedicated circuits for high-draw equipment plus additional GPOs for bench appliances. A living room with a media setup needs outlets for the TV, streaming devices, gaming console, sound system, and charging. If you’re regularly reaching for extension cords, you don’t have enough.

What's the difference between a GPO and a standard power point?

GPO stands for General Power Outlet – it’s the technical term for what most people call a power point or power socket. A standard 10A double GPO is the most common outlet type in Australian homes. A 15A or 20A GPO is used for high-draw appliances on dedicated circuits. USB-integrated GPOs add charging ports alongside the standard outlets. Weatherproof GPOs are rated for outdoor or wet area installation. The right type depends on where it’s going and what it’s powering.

Why is my power point warm to the touch?

A warm power point – even with nothing plugged in – indicates current is flowing through a faulty connection or that the circuit is carrying more load than it should. Both are fire risks. Turn off the outlet at the switch, stop using it, and call an electrician. Don’t wait on this one.

Can I replace a single power point with a double myself to save money?

No – and this is one of the most common DIY electrical mistakes in Sydney homes. Even replacing a single outlet with a double involves working with fixed wiring, which requires a licensed electrician in NSW. The good news is that single-to-double upgrades are among the quickest and most affordable electrical jobs to complete.

Do you install outdoor power points?

Yes. Outdoor power points must be correctly rated for external use – a standard indoor GPO is not suitable outside regardless of how it’s positioned. We install weatherproof GPOs to the correct IP rating for patios, pergolas, sheds, garages, and garden areas, including RCD protection where required.

Why Sydney home owners choose Network for Power Point Installation

Bundle and Save – Installing three or four power points in one visit significantly lowers your cost per point compared to booking separate jobs. We’ll quote the whole lot upfront – call and tell us what you need.

Data Points on the Same Visit – Adding a power point near a desk or entertainment unit? We can install a Cat6 data point at the same location on the same visit. One booking, one invoice, the full job done.

We Fix the Underlying Cause – A power point that keeps failing isn’t just a faulty outlet. We test the circuit before we leave to confirm the repair has addressed the cause – not just replaced the visible component.

Upfront Pricing. Network provides a fixed quote before any work begins.
